TJ returns

Anna had a bit of a tough morning. Every week or so they need to change the needle in the port. That's the thing they use to administer chemo, draw blood, etc... This article describes it better than I can.

It is supposed to be a simple process where they take one needle out and put in a new one. Apparently, it was a bit of a struggle. I think Anna was a bit nervous about it since this was the first time they were changing it. Plus, when they went to change it, they got it in but it wasn't drawing blood properly so they had to try it a few times.

Eventually, they got it but they wound up needing to have a few nurses involved and most of them were just there to say some prayers with Anna. I think it was one of those things that probably required one person to do the medical procedure and another five to distract the patient. I think all the excitement tired her out a bit for the day, plus I think she didn't get a good night sleep last night because she was nervous about it. It's done now, and she has a better idea of what to expect next time. Plus the nurses spoke about it and they think they figured out why it was so difficult and expect a smoother process next time. The nurses were great throughout the entire process and really were doing everything they could to help Anna get through the process.

After the rough morning, her parents decided to surprise her with a visit along with TJ. That really helped to cheer her up and I think she needed the support. TJ comes home tomorrow so that will be the first time I see him in quite a few days. I'm looking forward to spending some time with him and unless the schedule changes, he should be home for a couple of weeks.

No chemo today, but that is just part of the schedule. I don't have the schedule handy but it is one of these things where you have chemo one day, then take a day or two off. There are some days she'll get it and others where she won't. We think tomorrow she is scheduled for another dose. The next time I see the doctor, I'll try to get a schedule from him so we can all know what to expect.

It was great to have Anna's god-sister Ana spend the night here last night. Anna (the patient) really enjoyed spending time with Ana (the god-sister)... watch the number of n's kids... its the easiest way to tell the difference.

I'm staying in the hospital tonight. It'll be my first time spending the night in a few days.

She wanted to thank sylvanie for the card and everyone else for the comments.

Oh, i forgot to mention... in addition to having her own private room here, she now has her own private fridge. I haven't brought in the beers just yet, but suspect we're not too far away :)

3 more games at home for the Yanks and then we can start looking forward to off season moves and spring training. Suspect we'll get another "Roger Clemens is in George's box" type outbursts from Suzyn on Sunday night.

The one thing I can

The one thing I can understand about Thomas' unhappiness is the fact that he's due a $3 million roster bonus next March 70-646, and the pattern with the Jets in recent years is to release the player before that bonus is paid 70-647. That's what happened to both TE Chris Baker and RG Brandon Moore this past winter 70-648, although Moore was re-signed to a very fair new contract after the Jets were rebuffed by Pittsburgh UFA Chris Kemoeatu.

Hola

Sorry I am behind in my comments. I am happy about the good news and am upset that I am not as fun at my comments as your other friends are!! I do know, though, that my Dad would say - "you were worried about a port, try a catheter!!" (it is four years later and he STILL talks about that!!). I will be sending you stuff soon, right now just need the phone number to call you. Glad that TJ is home and that there might be beer!!! Know that you are ALL ALWAYS in my prayers and thoughts.
Love always
Debbie D
P.S. I might finally learn Spanish if I read enough!!

Want fries with that?

Anna:
Well, whether or not your ordered one, a loving and concerned aunt -- YOURS! -- is on her way to NJ. For a week or so, as I understand it. She's been a mess-in-a-dress since this whole thing started with your not feeling well. I'm certain you will BOTH feel better with her closer.
Now... as someone who made the drive from Providence to Chez Gaffney with Xiomara one OTHER time, I have only three words: "Gee Pee Ess".
P.S. If she's NOT there by NOON, Sunday, release the St. Bernards!
P.S.S. I hope you will move through all this treatment stuff swiftly and, with Divine assistance and the love and support of your friends and family, will be back to wellness before long.

Brian Again

Did someone say BEER?!?!?!

Might have to bring in some Wild Turkey 101 too...I hear it stabilizes the liver functions AND kills anything that Chemo doesn't! A win, win, if ya ask me.

All my best,
Brian

Such an Education!

In addition to reading daily progress which is most important (that is why we read these blogs, Anna!) we continue to get a medical education provided by links to the articles (thank you Tom!).

Anna, I am glad that you had the nurses praying with you, and now have a better understanding of the process. What a wonderful surprise to have a visit from TJ!

Tom - you like beer? Who knew? ;)
Hope to see you guys soon.
Ira and Chris

forewarned is ...

Hey Anna,
(well you know the rest!)

That whole switching out the port thing -- what a circus! I'm glad you have good nurses supporting you and helping you through the process, plus knowing what to expect makes all the difference. One day at a time, deep breath in, and breathe out! LOL! Tom, I hear you about the private fridge -- we'll have the bar set up in no time. :)
I'll be out of town for the next two days but Susan and Mario will keep me posted on your progress. Love you and God bless.
Stephanie
