Sunday's are quiet

There aren't too many truly quiet times in the hospital, but Sunday is about as quiet as it gets around here. The nurses are short staffed and only a couple of doctor's coming by to check in on things. All in all, it was a good day of rest for Anna.

She felt really good physically this morning. She had a blood transfusion last night and that really seems to help gve her more energy. I think I mentioned previously, but thats just one of the normal things she'll deal with on a recurring basis and it just goes through her port so its a bit of a non-event.

Overall, the vitals look pretty good. Her blood-sugar has been high the last couple of days, so now she'll start to take something for that. I was thinking today about this sequence of medicines... there is chemo to get rid of the cancer, steroids to help boost your system to counter the chemo, insulin to help fight blood sugar which is increased as a result of the steroids... so we start with a treatment (chemo) and then have a treatment for the treatment (steroids) and treatments for the treatment's treatment (insulin) and I think the story will continue to go like that. While all of that sounds complicated, I think it really is amazing to think about the state of medicine in the 21st century. Certainly, we could all wish that this horrible disease never occured at all, or could be cured with a vitamin but we're not there yet. But the number of things they watch and can treat is pretty damn amazing.

Chemo starts again tomorrow, so say an extra prayer or give an extra thought or whatever you do.

Giants looked good. J-E-T-S looked bad. Pittsburgh's on now. Should be a good Sunday night game.

Bonus: Although we postponed TJ's birthday party, we still had a little cake and a few presents... here's a couple pics from the b-day and a trip to see the Yanks in Camden a few weeks ago. http://anna.gaff.net/image/tid/1. Happy Sunday night/Monday morning!

Re: Hello Halle Berry

Hello Tom, Anna and TJ,

Annie, I am so thrilled that you are feeling much better :-) I hear you have a new hairdo and now look like Halle. Well Tom must be loving having a movie star for a wife ha ha! I am sure TJ is even more in love with his mommy than ever. Seriously, I have been thinking about you and praying and asking Ana to report on how you are all doing. Finally, I got the nerve to write...I can take some lessons from you guys on courage. Please let me know if I can help....for the record my blood type is A+ so if you need me to donate please don't hesitate to ask. In the meantime, I will stay in touch through the blog and by talking to Ana (Orlando).

Tom you are an amazing man, thanks for keeping us informed and for taking such good care of Annie.
Annie you are an amazing woman and your spirit and faith will help you beat this!

Hi Anna....

I just read Tom's email today...as I hardly get on aol b/c I use my yahoo accout more often. To say that I was in shock is an understatement. I couldn't hold back the tears to think of what you are going thru and that I didn't know sooner. I hope you know that I am praying for you and I hope (or rather know) that you will come out of this with flying colors. 'God is good' and he will take care of you b/c he knows how many people love you and that you have an adorable son that needs his mommy for a very very long time to come.
You are in my prayers and I have asked some of my close family / friends to do the same for you. I will definitely keep in touch with you via here, and will continue to read the updates. I know we have been talking about getting together some time and I look forward to that now more than ever...when you're feeling better and up to it. I actually texted you on friday to wish you a happy birthday. I'm not sure if you were able to see it, but just know that I had you in my thoughts as well...totally clueless of what you were going thru.
Le pido a dios que te cuide y te bendiga mucho y que te sigas mejorando.
God bless you and your family and may God give you all the love and strength you need to get thru this together.
Just know that if you need anything, I'm just a phone call away...no hay ni que decirlo.
Cuidate mucho....and I hope to hear nothing but great news in the days to come.

God bless,
Yesy

Hola!

Anna Banana - I could not remember my password etc. on Friday (I only have a million passwords during this crazy job search) so I sent my birthday wishes to Tom's e-mail (hope he got to show or read it to you). TJ is gorgeous and looks like such a good boy - I can't wait to visit with you all. Blessed be for all the good news - getting out of ICU - and on your birthday! - for Tom and his blog - for your family and friends - for the love and grace of the Lord sending you the Holy Spirit - for all your doctors and yes, for the 21st century medicine. Just can't seem to be uspet even for you about the Yankees............
On another note, Steven has moved into NYU dorm - loves it - does not call or e-mail and it is not even a month!! Been home twice to sleep off work and parties and then is off again!! Ciao for now!

Hi

Hi Anna,

Glad to know your liver is getting back to normal. Hope you had a great birthday weekend.

I saw the movie Righteous Kill on Saturday, it was good but it could have been much better. It was great to see them in a movie together after the movie HEAT!

I am going to buy the new E Lynn Harris book this weekend, I will start reading it once I am finished my other book.

Keep those spirits up!

Love Tammi
