bump in the road

On monday night, anna was running a little bit of a fever. It was below 100 so wasn't too worried about it. On tuesday, she went in for a scheduled transfusion. Her tempature was high (102 at one point) and her counts her low. The doctor decided, for precautionay reasons, to keep her over night. Chances are she could be there for a couple of days, but should be home by the weekend. She is doing pretty well with being back in the hospital but would certainly rather be home. The doctor actually mentioned that he was surpirised that she had gone this long (two months) with being admitted as many patients are admitted pretty frequently during the chemo process.

Ill update twitter (over there on the right) as I get info and will try to post to the blog at some point tonight. Heading into work now.

quick update

treatment went well today. her numbers are pretty low, so she's going back tomorrow for a transfusion. after that, she should have the rest of the week off. she's currently scheduled to go back again next monday to see the doctor and get some blood work done. Then she'll have the bone marrow/spinal tap on next tuesday. she didn't twitter much today as she was tired.

where did the weekend go?

The weekend was quick. My mom went home on Saturday. She's been great with coming down and taking care of things and we're both real appreciative of her help (and the help we receive from Anna's parents, my dad, and everyone else... the list is too long to include).

Bianca came in on Saturday morning from Orlando and she's here for a little over a week. TJ stayed out here on Saturday night and then Bianca and I drove him into the city on Sunday afternoon. Saying goodbye is always a little difficult for Anna (and me), but we know it's the right thing.

No treatment this weekend for Anna. On Friday, the doctor reduced her dosage a bit because she was feeling a little extra achy and tired. That same feeling persisted through most of the weekend. She had a bit of a tough time getting going this morning and didn't do much all day... Then somehow around 8pm, she had enough energy to drive into Union City to go to some Cuban place to get steak sandwiches.

Anna has an appointment tomorrow and Bianca is going to take her over. This is the last treatment in this phase. The first phase was "Induction" and that was the stuff in the hospital. Now, she's completing the second phase, which was "Early Intensification". Then, she'll start phase 3 which is "CNS prophylaxis and interim maintenance" which is scheduled to be a 12 week phase. Given that she isn't doing the cranial radiation, it looks like most of this treatment is pills and once-a-week spinal tap for the first 5 weeks. Given the other changes to the schedule, this may change as well... but it definitely looks like the schedule is going to slow down. The fourth phase things pick back up again for a bit... we'll know more tomorrow once she meets with Dr. Grossman.

Jets win. Pittsburgh wins.... Both games were on TV, which is always nice... and both were great games. Yanks get CC and AJ... the starting rotation looks much better. I think we'll make a few more moves before the season starts. Two months until spring training starts.

Hope everyone is almost done with their X-mas shopping (or Hanukkah or whatever you celebrate).
